073　ディーリアス作品のdiscから　その1　ビーチャム 　イギリスの作曲家、フレデリック・ディーリスを取り上げます。 Frederick Theodore Albert Delius CH 　78回転のSP盤の時代、予約購入を原則としてレコーディングを行う「○○協会」という組織がしばしば設立されていました。たとえば、フーゴー・ヴォルフのリート集成とかアルトゥール・シュナーベルによるベートーヴェンのピアノ・ソナタなどが「協会」企画盤として成功したものとして有名ですね。 　ディーリアス協会 Delius Siciety という私的な組織も結成され、ディーリアスの作品をレコード化することによって、この偉大な作品を世に広めようという目的で活動していました。その大部分のレコーディングは、創立者兼芸術監督であるサー・トーマス・ビーチャムの指揮によるもの。かつてエリック・フェンビーは「ディーリアスの音楽に未来があるとすれば・・・それはビーチャムが苦心の末創りあげた伝統に生きるしかないであろう」と書いています。 　エリック・フェンビーが書いた「ソング・オブ・サマー　真実のディーリアス」から、ビーチャムに関するディーリアスの発言をいくつか引いておきましょう。 　ラジオでビーチャムの「ブリッグの定期市」の演奏を聴いて― 「素晴らしいよ、トマス！　このように私の音楽を演奏してほしい。指揮者でそれを理解しているのはビーチャムだけだ！　美しい演奏だった！・・・」 　やはり放送でビーチャムの指揮する「ダンス・ラプソディ第2番」（初演）を聴いて― 「完璧だ、トマス。完璧だ！」 「このような最上級の演奏を年に数回聴くことができれば、私はそれで満足だ」 　サー・トマスが最近ディーリアス協会に録音した「パリ」と「おとぎ話」のレコードを聴くのが待ち遠しい、と言って― 「私の最良の作品にかんして、望むことはただひとつだ・・・トマスにすべてを録音してほしい」 　「音楽を聴く　056」で指揮者のサー・トマス・ビーチャムを取り上げたときに、ディーリアス作品のレコードのセットの内容を省略したので、最初にそのセットの収録曲と録音年を記載しておくこととします。1930年以前の電気録音初期のものはとりわけ貴重な記録であると言えるでしょう。なお付け加えておくと、このなかには、ビーチャムから販売を差し止められていた録音もあったそうで、その遺族の承認の元に、このレコードではじめて聴くことができるようになったものもあります。 晩年のDelius 　まずは1セットめ― "The Music of Delius The early Recordings(1927-1938.1948)" Record 1 Side 1 1 Paris - The Song of A great City 9th April,1934 2 Summer night On The River 4th October,1935 Side 2 1 Sea Drift John Brownlee(Baritone) and London Select Choir 3rd April and 2nd November,1936 2 "Irmelin" - Prelude 18th July,1938 London Philharmonic Orchestra, Sir Thomas Beecham,Bart.,C.H.
